Explosives Act, 1884 ==> It is still a central legislation enacted during British India, and it still forms the legal basis for modern explosive and hazardous-area regulation in India.
Hint: there is a new Explosive Bill 2025 which will replace the Explosive Act in future.
Explosive Rules, 2008,
The Explosives Rules, 2008 regulate manufacture, possession, storage, transport, sale, import, export, and use of explosives in India under the Explosives Act, 1884. Administered by Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), they establish licensing, safety, inspection, hazardous-area, approval, and enforcement requirements to prevent accidents involving explosive substances and related operations.
Paragraph 22
Use of electrical equipment.—
(1) No electrical equipment shall be used in places where explosives are being manufactured, handled or stored except with the prior permission of the Chief Controller.
(2) The electrical equipment shall be of a type acceptable to the Chief Controller.
Petroleum Rules 2002
The Petroleum Rules, 2002 regulate import, transport, storage, handling, refining, and distribution of petroleum in India under the Petroleum Act, 1934. Administered by Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), they establish licensing, hazardous-area safety, tank design, fire protection, inspection, and operational requirements for petroleum facilities and equipment.
