a) Food Additives:
For products covered under this standard, specific food additives permitted in Appendix ‘A’ of these regulations may be used and only within the limits specified.
b) Use of Food Additives in Food Products
- Food products may contain additives as specified in these regulations (and in the following Tables)
- The following additives, as indicated may be used in all food categories
- Microbiological Standards
- This regulation contains a list of allowed food additives (positive list), based on Codex Alimentarius.
c) Table 12 contains generally permitted processing aids
These regulations prescribe the labelling requirements of pre-packaged foods and display of essential information on premises where food is manufactured, processed, served and stored.
The label must contain:
- Name of Food
- List of Ingredients
- Nutritional Information
- Declaration of Vegetarian or Non-Vegetarian (special symbol)
- Declaration regarding Food Additives
- Name and Address of Brand Owner, Importer
- FSSAI logo and license number
- Net quantity, Retail Sale Price and Consumer Care details
- Lot/Code/Batch identification
- Date Marking (Date of manufacture or packaging, Expiry/Use by/Best before)
- Labelling of Imported Foods (acc. to ood Safety and Standards (Import) Regulations, 2017)
- Country of Origin for Imported Foods
- Instructions for use
- Food allergen
- Symbol, if the product
a) is not meant for human consumption
b) is treated by irradiation

All Food Business Operators in the country of India will be registered or licensed in accordance with the procedures listed in theis regulation.
Registration/License will be granted by the Central or Local Licensing Authority.
