The Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 specifies the responsibilities and duties of employers and employees with regard to workplace safety and safety requirements for products and materials.
The Uniform Building By-Laws, and the Building By-Laws (1984) also have provisions for safety during construction, fire exits, smoke detectors, obstructions, etc.
Other voluntary standards are including the Department of Occupational Safety and Health’s guidelines for public safety and health at construction site, and code of practice for safe working in a confined space. The guidelines cover the duties of different parties, hazard identification, risk assessment and control, emergency response methods, hoarding, movement of traffic, utilities disconnection, demolition, explosive use, site clearance, safety measures for types of construction works, the use of hoisting equipment, and crane storage.
The code of practice specifies approaches to working in confined spaces, permitting requirements, duties of various parties, ventilation standards, and safety protection methods.
