This ESSENTIAL describes the legal obligations for manufacturers and importers and the regulatory requirements for electrical equipment as specified in the compulsory technical regulations of South Africa (VC compulsory specifications).

Geltende Rechtsvorschriften:
This Act provides
- for the establishment of the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications of South Africa;
- for the appointment of the Board of the National Regulator;
- for the administration and maintenance of compulsory specifications in the interests of public safety and health or
- for environmental protection; and
- to matters connected therewith.
NRCS ELECTROTECHNICAL ensures the safety and energy efficiency of electrical and electronic apparatus, components and related products offered for sale in South Africa. The safety and environmental requirements are based on internationally accepted standards. It is appointed by the National Department of Labour as the approvals body for electrical products and components of domestic and industrial low voltage electrical installations.

The Act 5 of 2008:
To provide for the administration and maintenance of legal metrology technical regulations in order
to promote fair trade and
to protect public health and safety and the environment; and
to provide for matters connected therewith.
This Act mentiones also:
- Regulatory Certificate of Compliance (RCC)
- Authorisation Certificate (AC)
for products covered by the South African Standard SANS 10142-1 The wiring of premises – Part 1: Low-voltage installations'
